Mingara Orchid Fair 2015

The Mingara Orchid Fair and Show 2015

What a start to the intense 2015 ‘Show’ season! Mingara orchid fair and show has grown into a massive event in such little time. What started as limited vendors and a display of native orchids from the Central Coast ANOS Group in the early 2000’s has now become a solid hub for the Australian orchid community, this year supporting 28 national and international vendors from every state except for Tasmania, selling everything from orchids, flasks and potting mix to pots, tags and bromeliads. The orchid displays this year set a new standard for the show, with over 400 plants being nominated for judging. Grand Champion of the show was Masd. Eye of the Tiger ‘Katy Perry’ owned by Helen and Peter Jackson of Tasmania and was awarded an AM by the OSNSW, this plant was also champion AOG and was actually a first flowering seedling. A stand out of the show was a huge floor display by Scott Barrie of Barrita Orchids, which supported some of the best cymbidium hybrids seen in recent years. There was also a large number of Aussie Orchids on display which did not disappoint including D. shiraishii owned by Yvonne and Phil Spence which received Champion Australasian species and was awarded an CBM by the OSNSW. If you are yet to visit this event for the first time I recommend you pencil it in for next year!
