ANOS Newcastle Spring Show 2015

The “Spring Spectacular” has become a fixture of the New South Wales orchid calendar in recent years. The group’s members have formed a reputation for quality species and hybrids and this year was no exception. With around 200 plus entries most aspects of the show schedule were covered, this year the Dendrobium. speciosum complex put on a magnificent display.

Grand champion of the show and Champion speciosum Complex was Dendrobium. speciosum. ‘Maddison’ (v. grandiflorum. ‘Mt Larcom Gold’ x v. speciosum. ‘Windermere’) owned by Grahame Young and Callyn Farrell of Down Under Native Orchids this plant was also awarded a Award of Merit by ANOS on the day. Reserve Champion and Champion Australasian Orchid was Dendrobium. Australian Ginger ‘Kobie’ grown by Phil and Sandra Radford. Champion Hybrid, grown by Henry Willson was Dendrobium. Warringah ‘Purple Heaven’ AM/ANOS, Champion Any Other Species and Champion Terrestrial were also grown by Grahame Young and Callyn Farrell of Down Under Native Orchids, Champion Seedling grown by David Knight was Dendrobium. Memoria Alicia x Tyabb and Champion Novice was Dendrobium. Hunter Venus owned by Neville Green. Congratulations to all the show winners.

The membership of our society has only grown over the past few years and this has shown with the support and help offered, so on behalf of the group I would like to say thank you. The other huge thank you I must make is to our generous sponsors and also to Windale-Gateshead Bowling Club for their donation of the venue for our show.

If you are yet to make a trip to our annual show it is always held on the last weekend in August, so be sure to mark it on the calendar for next year!

Callyn Farrell

On behalf of the A.N.O.S Newcastle Group
